Day 2: Bought with Blood

Devotional
How do you determine the value of something? Whether it's a car, a house, or a piece of art, the price someone is willing to pay reveals its true worth. The Mona Lisa is priceless not because of the paint and canvas, but because of what someone would pay to own it. This same principle applies to the church, but on an infinitely greater scale. The church's value isn't determined by its buildings, programs, or even the people in it. Its value is determined by the price that was paid for it—and that price was the blood of Jesus Christ. Think about that for a moment. The Son of God didn't shed His blood for a painting, a building, or an organization. He shed His blood to obtain a people. Every person who has ever trusted in Jesus becomes part of this treasured possession that cost Him everything. This understanding should radically change how we view the church. It's not just a place we attend when convenient or a social group we join for fellowship. It's God's treasured possession, purchased at the highest possible price. When we treat the church casually or with indifference, we're treating lightly what cost Jesus His very life. The church has infinite value because it belongs to an infinite God. Every gathering, every act of service, every moment of worship represents something that Jesus considered worth dying for. This doesn't mean the church is perfect—it's filled with imperfect people like you and me. But it does mean that God sees incredible worth in His people. When you understand the price that was paid, everything changes. Suddenly, being part of the church isn't just about what you can get out of it—it's about honoring the incredible sacrifice that made it possible.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession,
that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
- 1 Peter 2:9

Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus paid for the church with His own blood change the way you think about your commitment to and involvement in your church?

“The value of something is measured by what someone is willing to pay for it.
Jesus paid for the church with his own blood.” - Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for the incredible price You paid to make me part of Your church. Help me never to take lightly what cost You everything. May I see the church through Your eyes—as Your treasured possession worth dying for. Give me a heart that honors this sacrifice through my commitment and love. Amen.
