Day 2: United in Christ

Devotional
Look around your church on Sunday morning. You'll see people of different ages, backgrounds, professions, and personalities. In a world that naturally divides along lines of similarity, the church stands as something revolutionary—a community united not by natural affinity but by supernatural grace. In Ephesians 2, Paul describes how Christ has broken down the dividing wall of hostility between groups that would naturally be separated. Through the cross, Jesus creates "one new humanity" out of formerly divided peoples. This isn't just a nice theological concept—it's meant to be visibly demonstrated every time we gather. The diversity of the church isn't an accident or an inconvenience to be managed. It's a powerful testimony to the reconciling work of Christ. When people who have little in common except Jesus come together in worship and community, the world sees something it cannot explain naturally. This unity doesn't mean we never have disagreements or challenges. Rather, it means we're committed to working through those challenges because our bond in Christ is stronger than our differences. We're not a social club—we're a family created by God's grace.

For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one
and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility
- Ephesians 2:14

Reflection Question
How might God be calling you to move beyond your comfort zone to build relationships with people in your church who are different from you?

The church is not a social club for people who naturally get along.
It's a supernatural gathering of people who would never be together except for Christ.
~ Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Father, thank You for creating a diverse family united by Your Son. Help me to value and pursue relationships with those who are different from me, demonstrating to the world the supernatural unity that only Christ can create. Amen.
