How to Turn the World Upside Down: Day One

Sermon Video

Day 1: The Rightful King

Devotional
In a world where we're constantly bombarded with messages about who or what should rule our lives, the Gospel presents a revolutionary truth: Jesus Christ is the only rightful King of our hearts. Think about it—what currently sits on the throne of your heart? Is it the pursuit of success? The desire for others' approval? The comfort of financial security? Or perhaps it's the independence to do whatever you want? The truth is, we all serve something or someone. There is always a king ruling our lives, directing our decisions, and shaping our values. But only one King has the legitimate claim to that throne. Jesus didn't come to be just another option among many. He came to reclaim what was rightfully His—the throne of your heart. This isn't about adding Jesus to your life; it's about surrendering your entire life to Him. It's a complete regime change. When we allow Jesus to take His rightful place as King, everything changes. Our priorities shift. Our values transform. Our purpose clarifies. This is what it means for our world to be turned upside down—or rather, right side up as God intended.

For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing;
it is the gift of God,
 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
- Ephesians 2:8-9

Reflection Question
What or who is currently sitting on the throne of your heart, and what would need to change if you were to fully surrender that throne to Jesus?

“Every single one of us has a throne on our hearts, meaning that someone or something is king of your life.
For some, it's politics.
For others, it's the approval of other people or wealth or comfort or success or independence.
Whatever it is that you live for, that's your king.”
— Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I've placed other things on the throne that rightfully belongs to You. Help me to recognize the counterfeit kings in my life and to surrender fully to Your loving rule. Thank You for Your grace that saves me not because of what I've done, but because of what You've done. Amen.
