One Gospel, One Foundation: Day 5
Day 5: Standing Under, Not Over
Devotional
Paul's authority didn't come from human appointment or approval. He received his gospel directly from Christ, and that divine source validated his message. This teaches us a crucial principle: no human authority stands over the gospel to validate it. The moment anyone claims to be judge over the gospel, they've claimed authority that belongs to God alone. This truth should both humble and encourage us. It humbles us because we must all submit to the gospel's authority, regardless of our position or experience. Even apostles had to align their message with gospel truth. It encourages us because we can test every teaching—including from respected leaders—against the clear standard of Scripture. Paul's example shows us that healthy church leadership always stands under God's Word, never over it. Leaders who forbid questions or claim immunity from biblical scrutiny have stepped outside their proper role. The gospel validates the messenger, not the other way around.
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you
a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. - Galatians 1:8
Reflection Question
Are you willing to test all teaching—even from respected leaders—against the clear truth of Scripture, and do you submit your own life to the gospel's authority?
“No human authority stands over the gospel to validate it.
The moment anyone sets himself as a judge over the gospel,
he has claimed an authority that belongs to God himself alone.” — Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Father, help me always stand under Your Word's authority, never over it. Give me courage to test all teaching against Your truth and humility to submit to it.
