Day 2: The Gift of Forgiveness

Devotional
If we're honest, we all have a guilt problem. The weight of our failures, both big and small, can be crushing. The psalmist acknowledges a profound truth: if God kept a record of our sins, none of us could stand before Him. But here's where the psalm takes a beautiful turn – "But with you there is forgiveness." These words offer breathtaking hope. God doesn't just reluctantly forgive; forgiveness flows from His very nature. It's who He is. This isn't about minimizing sin or pretending it doesn't matter. Rather, it's about recognizing the incredible gift God offers us. When we own our guilt and cry out for mercy, we discover that God is more eager to forgive than we are to ask for it. Forgiveness isn't earned through our efforts or deserved because of our promises to do better. It's freely given because of God's character. This truth should produce in us what the psalmist describes as "fear" – not terror, but a reverent awe that transforms how we live. When we truly grasp the depth of God's forgiveness, it changes everything.

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.- Psalm 130:3-4

Reflection Question
How might your life look different if you fully embraced God's forgiveness rather than carrying the weight of guilt and shame?

"Forgiveness isn't just something that God does, it's something that he is.
Forgiveness is part of his nature." — Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Merciful Father, thank you that forgiveness is not just something you do but who you are. I confess my sins to you now, knowing that you are faithful and just to forgive. Help me to live in the freedom of your forgiveness today. Amen.
