The Anticipated King: Day Five
Day 5: Simply Come
Devotional
The most beautiful word in the Gospel is "come." Not "climb," not "earn," not "fix yourself first"—just "come." This simple invitation carries the weight of eternity and the warmth of divine love. It's an invitation that meets you exactly where you are, with all your mess, all your questions, and all your need. Your forgiveness doesn't rest on your tears, your promises, or your performance, no matter how sincere. It rests entirely on Jesus' blood, shed once for all who call upon Him. You don't have to be religious enough, good enough, or spiritual enough. You don't need special words, a spotless record, or a perfect understanding. You only need Jesus. God isn't waiting for you to climb the stairs to get back to Him—He has already come down. He came all the way into flesh, onto the cross, and out of the tomb. The chasm that sin created has been bridged by His love. The distance that seemed impossible to cross has been eliminated by His grace. Whether you're seeking God for the first time or feeling distant as a longtime believer, the answer is the same: simply come. Come with your doubts, your failures, your hopes, and your fears. Come trusting not in what you can do, but in what He has already done. The invitation stands open, and the way has been made clear through Jesus.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:13
Reflection Question
What is keeping you from simply coming to Jesus today, and what would it look like to trust completely in what He has already done for you?
“Not asking you to climb, not asking you to fix yourself, not asking you to earn his nearness,
but simply calling you to come, to trust, to receive the one
who has already done everything necessary to bring you home.” - Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the simple invitation to come. Help me to stop striving and start trusting, to stop climbing and start resting in Your finished work. Thank You that You came down to me when I was incapable of coming to You. I come to You now, just as I am.
