The Anticipated King: Day Two
Day 2: Grace Comes Down
Devotional
Imagine spending years trying to build a ladder to the moon. No matter how many rungs you add, how much effort you exert, or how sincere your intentions, you'll never reach your destination. The gap is simply too vast for human engineering to bridge. This is the reality of trying to reach God through our own efforts. Every religion in the world, except Christianity, operates on the same basic principle: climb your way to God through rules, rituals, and righteous living. Work harder, pray longer, sacrifice more, and maybe—just maybe—you'll earn divine approval. But here's the revolutionary truth of the Gospel: if you can climb your way to God, then your God isn't very high. Christianity stands alone because it's built on grace, not human achievement. Instead of demanding that we climb up to Him, God chose to come down to us. This isn't because He had to, but because He wanted to. The Temple wasn't Solomon's brilliant idea that somehow obligated God to show up—it was God's own invitation, His way of saying, "You cannot reach Me, so I will reach you." This changes everything about how we approach God. We don't come with our accomplishments or our perfection. We come with our need, knowing that grace has already made the journey from heaven to earth on our behalf.
who looks far down on the heavens and the earth? - Psalm 113:6
Reflection Question
In what ways have you been trying to 'climb up' to God through your own efforts, and how does it feel to know that He has already come down to you?
“Christianity alone stands on this truth.
The true and living God is too high for us to reach,
so he must come down to us, and that is grace.” - Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times I've tried to earn my way to You. Thank You that Your grace comes down to meet me where I am. Help me to rest in what You've already done rather than striving in my own strength.
