The Power That Prevails: Day Five
Day 5: The Only Power That Truly Transforms
Devotional
After witnessing the dramatic events in Ephesus - the extraordinary miracles, the defeat of the false exorcists, and the public burning of magic books - one truth emerges crystal clear: there is only one power that truly transforms lives, and that power is Jesus Christ. Every other form of power we pursue ultimately disappoints. Political influence corrupts, wealth isolates, success breeds anxiety, and control creates bondage. But the power of Jesus is different. It doesn't corrupt those who surrender to it; it purifies them. It doesn't isolate; it connects us to God and others in authentic community. This transforming power isn't found in religious rituals, spiritual techniques, or positive thinking. It's found in a Person - the crucified and risen Jesus Christ. When we surrender our lives to Him, acknowledging Him as both Savior and Lord, His power begins to work in us from the inside out. The gospel isn't about using Jesus to make your life better; it's about surrendering your life to Jesus because He is better than anything this world could ever give you. It's about recognizing that He is worthy of our complete trust and devotion. As missionary Jim Elliot said, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose." When we surrender everything to Jesus, we don't lose - we gain everything that truly matters: forgiveness, purpose, peace, and eternal life with God.
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think,
according to the power at work within us,
to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations,
forever and ever. Amen. - Ephesians 3:20-21
Reflection Question
How has surrendering areas of your life to Jesus brought more transformation than trying to control those areas yourself?
“There's only one power that truly transforms the power of Jesus Christ.” - Pastor Mike Mura
