Day 1: The Emptiness of Earthly Power

Devotional
Alexander the Great had it all. By age 30, he had conquered most of the known world, commanding armies and ruling vast territories. Yet when he reached the pinnacle of his achievements, he wept because there were no more worlds left to conquer. Despite gaining everything he had dreamed of, it still wasn't enough. This ancient story mirrors our modern pursuit of power, success, and control. We chase promotions, accumulate wealth, seek influence, and strive for recognition, believing these will finally satisfy the deep longing in our hearts. But like Alexander, we often find ourselves empty even after achieving our goals. The truth is, earthly power is hollow. It promises transformation but delivers corruption. It pledges satisfaction but leaves us wanting more. Whether it's the power of position, possessions, or popularity, these forces ultimately fail to heal what's broken in our lives. Perhaps you've experienced this yourself - achieving something you thought would bring lasting joy, only to find the satisfaction fading quickly. Maybe you've climbed the ladder of success only to realize you're still the same person with the same struggles and insecurities. This isn't meant to discourage you, but to redirect your search. There is a power that can truly transform your life, heal your relationships, and bring lasting peace. But it's not found in what this world offers. It's found in Someone who offers Himself.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
- Proverbs 3:5-7

Reflection Question
What earthly forms of power or success have you pursued, hoping they would bring lasting satisfaction, and how did they ultimately leave you feeling?

“Alexander the Great conquered most of the known world by the age of 30.
With unmatched military genius, he built an empire stretching from Greece to India.
Yet history tells us that when he finally reached the end of his conquests,
he wept because there were no more worlds left to conquer.
He had gained everything. And yet it still wasn't enough.”
- Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Lord, help me recognize the emptiness of worldly power and success. Show me where I've been searching for satisfaction in the wrong places, and redirect my heart toward You as the true source of transformation and peace. Amen.
