The Promised King: Day Five
Day 5: The Promise Fulfilled
Devotional
For thousands of years, God's people waited for the promise to be fulfilled. They watched for the One who would crush the serpent's head and restore God's good world. And then, in the fullness of time, Jesus came. Jesus didn't come to help us become better people through moral improvement or positive thinking. He came because our condition was far more desperate than we could imagine, and His love was far greater than we dared to hope. At the cross, He dealt the decisive blow to Satan, removing our guilt, paying our debt, and eliminating our shame. Think of it this way: we were like broken gears that had thrown the entire machine out of alignment. But Jesus made Himself a gear just like us. He entered the broken machine, allowed Himself to be crushed by it for our sake, and then by faith in Him, He puts us back where we belong. For everyone who trusts in Christ, the accuser has lost his case. Satan's only weapon was to point out our rebellion and demand our condemnation. But when Jesus died as the full and final payment for our sin, that weapon was taken away. Our guilt is gone, our debt is paid, our shame is removed. If you sense even the smallest pull toward Jesus, if you feel a longing to be free from the weight of your brokenness, that's God drawing you to Himself. The promise has been fulfilled. The King has come. Restoration is available today.
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood,
he himself likewise partook of the same things,
that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
- Hebrews 2:14
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus has already defeated Satan and paid for your sin change the way you view your relationship with God?
“Jesus made himself a gear, just like us.
He entered the machine that we broke.
He allowed himself to be crushed by it for us.
And now by faith in him, he puts us back where we belong.”
- Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for entering our broken world and allowing Yourself to be crushed for our sake. Help me to fully trust in what You've accomplished and to live in the freedom You've provided. Put me back where I belong in Your good design. Amen.
