When the Work Feels Too Hard: Day Three
Day 3: The Invitation to Speak in Weakness
Devotional
There's something counterintuitive about God's kingdom: He often calls us to speak when we feel least qualified to do so. When Paul was trembling with fear and weakness in Corinth, God didn't tell him to wait until he felt stronger. Instead, He gave him a strong mandate: "Do not be silent." This reveals a beautiful truth about how God works. The success of His mission doesn't depend on the skill of the messenger - it depends on the sovereignty and power of the One who sends us. When we feel weak, inadequate, and fearful, that's actually the perfect time to start speaking about God's goodness. Why? Because that's when it's unmistakably clear that the strength isn't ours - it's God's. When God works through our weaknesses, He gets all the glory. Our trembling voices become megaphones for His power. Paul later wrote to the Corinthians about coming to them "in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling." Yet it was in that very weakness that God's power was displayed most clearly. The Corinthians couldn't attribute their transformation to Paul's eloquence or charisma - they could only point to God. Maybe you've been waiting to feel more confident before you share your faith, serve in ministry, or step into the calling God has placed on your heart. But what if your weakness isn't a disqualification? What if it's actually your invitation? When fragile, ordinary people open their mouths to share Christ, the power of God shines all the more brilliantly. Your weakness becomes the backdrop against which God's strength is most clearly seen.
And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling,
and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom,
but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
- 1 Corinthians 2:3-4
Reflection Question
Where has God been calling you to step into and speak that you've been avoiding because you feel too weak or inadequate, and how might your weakness actually be the perfect backdrop for His strength?
“Here's the truth, Church. If you're here this morning and you're feeling weak, fearful, inadequate, that's the perfect time to start speaking.” - Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
God, help me to see my weakness not as a disqualification but as an invitation for Your power to work through me. Give me courage to speak and act even when I feel inadequate, trusting that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. Amen.
