Bold Witness in a Blind World: Day One
Day 1: Seeing Through the Darkness
Devotional
Have you ever tried to navigate a familiar room in complete darkness? You know where everything should be, yet you find yourself stumbling, reaching for walls, grasping at shadows. This is the spiritual reality for so many people around us today. We live in a world where people are desperately searching for meaning, purpose, and hope. They chase after careers, relationships, success, and even religious experiences, yet something feels missing. They're like people groping around in spiritual darkness, unable to see the very God who created them and loves them deeply. The tragedy isn't that people don't want truth - it's that they can't see it clearly. They're not lazy or indifferent; they're blind. And this blindness affects all of us at different times and in different ways. We can become so focused on the immediate, the tangible, the urgent, that we lose sight of the eternal. But here's the beautiful truth: God isn't hiding from us. He's not playing cosmic hide-and-seek, waiting for us to stumble upon Him by accident. The problem isn't that God is distant or unknowable. The problem is our spiritual vision. Just as physical light can illuminate a dark room instantly, God's light can penetrate spiritual darkness. When we begin to see clearly, everything changes. The things we once thought were so important may fade, while the things we overlooked suddenly become precious. This is the beginning of true sight - recognizing that our Creator has been there all along, waiting for us to open our eyes. Today, ask God to help you see more clearly. Ask Him to illuminate the areas of your life where you might be groping in darkness, and trust that He wants to be found.
And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know,
in paths that they have not known I will guide them.
I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground.
These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them. - Isaiah 42:16
Reflection Question What areas of your life feel like you're 'groping in the dark' for answers, and how might God be inviting you to see His presence there?
“People live in spiritual blindness.
They search for truth and meaning and hope, but it's like groping around in the dark.
They chase idols of money and pleasure, power, even religion, but they don't know the God who made them.” — Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to see You more clearly. Help me recognize the ways I might be stumbling in spiritual darkness, and shine Your light into every corner of my life. Give me the courage to seek You with my whole heart. Amen.
