Gospel Math: Day One
Day 1: Trusting God's Math
Devotional
Have you ever tried to be faithful to God, doing everything you thought was right, only to find yourself facing confusion or what seemed like failure? This can be incredibly frustrating and leave you wondering what God is doing. But remember, God operates on a different kind of math. Eric Liddell, after achieving fame in the Olympics, left it all to serve as a missionary in China. His ministry faced hardship and imprisonment, which, from the world's perspective, looked like failure. But God was doing His own kind of math, adding fullness where faith was lacking and multiplying His word through ordinary faithfulness. In Acts 19, Paul encountered twelve men who knew about repentance but hadn't heard the full Gospel. Paul added what was missing in their understanding, showing us that God adds what is lacking when the Gospel is faithfully proclaimed. Trust that God is working in ways you may not see or understand.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. - Isaiah 55:8
Reflection Question
Can you recall a time when you felt like your faithfulness wasn't producing the results you expected? How might God have been working in ways you couldn't see?
“Have you ever tried to be faithful to God?
You know, really try to do what's right, and yet things just didn't go the way you thought they should?”
- Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Lord, help me to trust in Your divine math, even when I don't understand it. Give me faith to believe that You are adding fullness where it is lacking and multiplying Your word through my ordinary faithfulness. Amen.
