Gospel Alignment: Day Four
Day 4: You Cannot See Your Own Blind Spots
Devotional
Peter was one of the most seasoned leaders in the early church. He had walked with Jesus. He had preached at Pentecost. He had seen the vision from God that broke down the wall between Jew and Gentile. And yet, when certain influential men walked into the room, he drifted. He did not even seem to notice. That is the nature of a blind spot. By definition, you cannot see it yourself. This is why the Christian life was never designed to be lived alone. We need people around us who know the Gospel and us well enough to spot a bent spoke before we do. And we need them to love us enough to say something. A wise friend who tells you the truth is not your enemy. That person is one of the greatest gifts God can place in your life. Proverbs calls that kind of honesty more valuable than gold, and it is. Being that kind of friend for someone else is not about superiority. It is an act of love that says, the Gospel is better than what you are settling for, and I care too much to stay quiet. Who in your life plays that role for you? And are you playing it for anyone else?
Like a gold ring or an ornament of gold is a wise reprover to a listening ear. - Proverbs 25:12
Reflection Question
Is there someone in your life who loves you enough to tell you the truth, and are you humble enough to actually listen when they do?
"We need people who know us and who know the gospel well enough
to spot a bent spoke in our own lives before we can,
and who love us enough to say something about it." - Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Father, give me the humility to receive correction and the courage to offer it in love. Surround me with people who know both the Gospel and me well enough to help me stay connected to You. Amen.
