How To Run Without Running Out: Day 2

Day 2: When Human Strength Hits Empty‍ ‍

Devotional
Picture an ultramarathon runner at mile 80 of a 100-mile race. Despite months of training, proper nutrition, and mental preparation, their body begins to shut down. Their legs feel like concrete, their vision blurs, and every step becomes agony. This is what happens when human strength reaches its limit - and it always does. In our spiritual lives, we often make the same mistake as that runner, believing that if we just train harder, eat better, or develop more willpower, we can avoid hitting the wall. We think youth will save us, or talent, or sheer determination. But even the strongest among us will eventually fall exhausted. Your energy runs out. Your willpower depletes. The people you depend on will disappoint you. Every human fuel tank will hit empty. This isn't a character flaw or a sign of weakness - it's the human condition. We were designed with limitations, and those limitations point us toward something greater. When we finally acknowledge that our strength has a bottom, we're positioned to discover the One whose strength never runs dry. God doesn't promise to make the journey feel easy, but He promises something better: that you will not collapse when you draw from His limitless supply.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you currently trying to rely on your own strength instead of God's limitless power?

“Every other source of strength that you can lean on has a bottom.
Your energy runs out, your willpower runs out. The people you depend on will run out.
But God does not faint. God does not grow weary. He is the everlasting God.
Which means his strength has no bottom.” — Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Father, I confess that I've been trying to run on my own strength, and I'm exhausted. Help me surrender my limitations to You and trust in Your perfect power.
