Day 2: Spotting the Counterfeit

Treasury agents don't learn to spot counterfeit money by studying every possible fake bill. Instead, they study the genuine article so thoroughly that when something false appears, they recognize it immediately. This same principle applies to protecting ourselves from false gospels. The best defense against spiritual deception isn't memorizing every possible error. It's developing such a deep, settled, joyful knowledge of the true gospel that counterfeits become obvious. When we truly understand that salvation comes through faith in Christ alone, by grace alone, we'll immediately recognize when someone tries to add human works or requirements. This knowledge isn't just intellectual—it's experiential. The more we rest in God's grace, the more sensitive we become to anything that would steal that rest. False gospels always burden us with performance, while the true gospel sets us free to serve from gratitude rather than obligation.
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing

How well do you know the 'genuine article' of the gospel? Are you studying it deeply enough to spot when something false tries to add to or subtract from it?
