The Gospel for the Godless - Day 2
Day 2: Breaking Free from Empty Masters
Devotional
We all serve something or someone. Whether it's career success, relationships, social media approval, or material comfort, these 'masters' demand our constant attention and energy. They promise fulfillment but leave us feeling empty and exhausted. Like ancient idols, they have eyes but cannot see, mouths but cannot speak, and most importantly, they cannot satisfy our deepest longings.
"They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them." - Psalm 115:4-8
Reflection Question
What 'empty masters' in your life demand your attention but fail to provide lasting satisfaction?
“That's the cruelty of empty masters.
They promise fulfillment, but they never fill you.
They demand everything.
And when you collapse under the pressure, they offer no grace.
They overpromise and underdeliver.”
~ Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Father, help me recognize the empty pursuits that compete for my devotion. Give me strength to break free from these false masters and find true fulfillment in You alone. Amen.
