Day 4: The Power of a Teachable Heart

Devotional
Apollos had every reason to be defensive. He was eloquent, educated, and effective. People were drawn to his preaching, and his reputation was growing. When two tentmakers approached him with corrections to his teaching, he could have easily dismissed them. After all, what could these ordinary blue-collar people teach someone of his caliber? But Apollos chose humility over pride, and that choice changed everything. His teachable spirit didn't diminish his gifts; it multiplied them. After receiving Priscilla and Aquila's loving correction, his ministry became even more powerful and effective. This reveals a kingdom principle that turns worldly wisdom upside down: maturity isn't measured by how much we know but by how teachable we remain. The moment we think we've arrived, we stop growing. The moment we become unteachable, we become unusable. A teachable spirit is the pathway to greater influence in God's kingdom – not a platform, position, or polish. When we remain open to correction and growth, God can continue to shape us and use us in ways we never imagined. Think about the people who have had the greatest impact on your spiritual journey. Chances are, they weren't the ones who had all the answers but the ones who remained humble enough to keep learning. They created space for others to speak into their lives, and that humility made them safe and trustworthy. God is still working today through ordinary people who love Him. Are you humble enough to see Him at work through unexpected servants?

He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, t
hey took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. - Acts 18:26

Reflection Question
What areas of your life or faith might God want to refine through the loving correction of others?

“If you're unteachable, you're unusable.” - Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
God, keep my heart soft and teachable. Help me to receive correction with humility rather than defensiveness. Show me the people You've placed in my life to help me grow, and give me the wisdom to listen well. Guard me from pride that would make me unteachable and unusable. Amen.
