Day 1: Building with Purpose
Devotional
Have you ever worked hard on something only to wonder if it really mattered? Solomon, the wisest king who ever lived, understood this feeling deeply. In Psalm 127, he reveals a profound truth that can transform how we approach everything we do: "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain." This verse isn't suggesting we should stop working hard. Rather, it invites us to examine the foundation of our efforts. Two people could build identical houses—one finding deep meaning, the other finding emptiness. The difference? One builds with God, the other without Him. When we build with God, we acknowledge that our abilities come from Him. We depend on His guidance rather than relying solely on our own understanding. We express gratitude for His provision. And perhaps most importantly, we work for His approval rather than human validation. This shift in perspective changes everything. The presentation you're preparing for work, the dinner you're cooking for your family, the studies you're pursuing—all of these can be infused with eternal significance when done with and for the Lord. Today, consider what you're building in your life. Are you constructing a career, a relationship, a reputation? Whatever it is, invite God into the process. Recognize that He wants to work alongside you, guiding your hands and heart. When He builds with you, nothing you do is in vain.
Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. - Psalm 127:1

Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I've tried to build without You. I invite You into every area of my life—my work, my relationships, my dreams. Guide my hands and heart so that nothing I do is in vain. Help me to recognize that true meaning comes only when You are at the center. Amen.
