Day 2: Working with the Father

Devotional
Remember "bring your child to work day"? There's something special about a child watching their parent work, learning alongside them, and feeling the pride of contributing to something bigger than themselves. As believers, we have an incredible privilege that transforms our daily work: "For the Christian, every day is like bring your kid to work day. With your Heavenly Father? You get to go to work every day with your Heavenly Father." This perspective revolutionizes Monday mornings, difficult projects, and mundane tasks. When we recognize God's presence in our work, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. The spreadsheet becomes sacred. The classroom becomes holy ground. Paul understood this when he wrote to the Colossians. Our work isn't just about earning a paycheck or building a career—it's about serving the Lord Christ. This doesn't mean we need to work in ministry to honor God. It means that whatever work we do, we can do it with excellence, integrity, and purpose, knowing that our ultimate audience is God Himself. God designed us to work and to work hard. But He never intended us to work alone or for the wrong reasons. When we work alongside our Heavenly Father, acknowledging His presence and seeking His guidance, our work becomes worship. Today, as you tackle your to-do list, imagine your Heavenly Father working alongside you. Invite Him into your meetings, your decisions, your challenges. Ask for His wisdom and strength. And remember that when you work for Him, no task is too small to matter.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.
You are serving the Lord Christ.- Colossians 3:23-24

Reflection Question
How might your approach to work change if you consciously recognized God's presence with you throughout your workday?

“When the Lord is at the center of your work in these ways, your work will have eternal meaning.
Living in this kind of dependence on the Lord will fill you
with the joy of knowing that God is not distant in your daily work.”
-Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the privilege of working alongside You. Help me to see my work through Your eyes today. Give me Your strength for difficult tasks, Your wisdom for challenging decisions, and Your love for the people I encounter. May everything I do honor You and reflect Your character. Amen.
