Day 4: The Gospel Confronts Before It Comforts
Devotional
We live in a culture that loves self-improvement and positive thinking, but the Gospel offers something far more radical. It's not good advice for better living - it's good news about a King who demands our surrender. Before the Gospel can comfort our hearts, it must first confront them with the truth about our need for a Savior. Many people resist Christianity not because they dislike religion, but because they resist rule. We're comfortable with religious practices that make us feel better about ourselves, but we struggle with the idea of surrendering control to someone else - even if that someone is Jesus Christ. Becoming a Christian means a complete regime change in your heart. It's not about adding Jesus to your life as a helpful advisor or life coach. It's about stepping off the throne of your own life and allowing Him to be King. This surrender isn't a one-time event but a daily choice to submit your will, your plans, and your desires to His lordship. The beautiful truth is that when we surrender to Christ as King, we discover the freedom and purpose we've been searching for all along. His rule isn't burdensome - it's the path to abundant life.
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved. - Romans 10:9
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you still trying to maintain control instead of surrendering to Christ as King?
“To become a Christian means a regime change in your heart. You've got to let the king in.
You've got to step off the throne. You've got to surrender your life to Christ as your king.”
— Pastor Mike Mura
Prayer
Jesus, I acknowledge You as my King and Lord. Help me surrender every area of my life to Your rule, trusting that Your way is always best.
