Day 4: When You Have Nothing Left to Give

Corrie ten Boom survived one of the most brutal concentration camps of World War II. Years later, she came face to face with a former guard from that camp, a man who had caused unimaginable suffering. He extended his hand and asked for her forgiveness. She could not do it. Every part of her resisted. So she did the only thing she knew to do. She prayed quietly: "Jesus, I cannot forgive this man. Give me Your forgiveness." When she reached out and took his hand, she described it as a current passing through her arm. She did not manufacture that forgiveness. She did not dig deeper into her own moral reserves until she found enough. She simply admitted she had nothing and asked Christ to do through her what she could not do herself. That is Galatians 2:20 lived out in real life. Not a polished, put-together Christian performing well under pressure. A broken person, completely dependent on the living Christ, watching Him show up in a moment that was far beyond her. You may be facing something today that feels just as impossible. A relationship that seems beyond repair. A wound that feels too deep to forgive. An obstacle that is simply too big for you. That is exactly the right place to be. Because when you have nothing left, you are finally in the position to let Christ do what only He can do. Your emptiness is not a problem. It is an invitation.

Is there a situation in your life right now where you have been trying to produce something in your own strength that only Christ can actually provide?

Prayer
Father, I confess that I often exhaust myself trying to do what only You can do. In the places where I have nothing left, would You show up and do through me what I cannot do myself. Amen.
