The Pressure Test: Day 2

Day 2: The Pride Trap‍ ‍

Devotional
Pride is a dangerous master. When it rules our hearts, it doesn't soften under pressure - it calcifies, becoming harder and more brittle. The Jewish leaders in Paul's story demonstrate this perfectly. Two years had passed since their failed plot, yet their hearts had only grown more determined to destroy Paul. They were willing to break God's own law rather than admit they were wrong. Pride makes us foolish, convincing us that protecting our reputation is more important than doing what's right. It whispers that we can't afford to look weak or admit mistakes. But here's the truth: pride promises to protect us while actually destroying us from the inside out. When we refuse to humble ourselves, we become prisoners of our own image. The very thing we think is preserving our dignity is actually stealing our freedom and joy. Recognizing pride's grip on our hearts is the first step toward freedom.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9

Reflection Question
In what area of your life might pride be preventing you from admitting you're wrong or need help?

“They would rather break God's law than lose their pride.” — Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer
Father, expose the pride in my heart and give me the humility to confess and change. Help me value Your approval above protecting my image.
